| One of the
main objectives of FEH is the exploration of the numerous underwater
cave systems of the Dominican Republic. In some cases, the caves
were already explored, so FEH's work consisted of further in-depth
exploration, including looking for more tunnels, and making sure
the line in the caves were well installed, replacing them if necessary.
The majority of the caves were found with the help of the locals,
and were explored and surveyed for the first time by members of
the FEH.
The FEH has installed a total of more than 5310 meters of lines
with proper marking. This is to help the safe practice of cave diving
and minimize the accidental damage one can do to the fragile formations,
and contribute to the preservation of the cave environment.
To date FEH has located 61 caves, the majority explored and the
10 deemed most important were surveyed. |

the first step in the study of the underwater cave systems.
The maps are going to help find the caves most important
features, plan future dives, and determine the best position for
the water, mineral and fauna sampling.
